Standing in the Gap: 2020 Day Program at Building Hope

As a result of the current Pandemic due to COVID-19, Pitt County Schools has made the tough decision to transition to a hybrid-model of instruction. Those most negatively impacted by choosing the Plan B reopening option will be at-risk students from disadvantaged communities. These children and families are who we are blessed to serve at Building Hope. Many of our families are comprised of single-parent homes with more than one child in the home. Our families depend on school not only for academic support, but safety, nutrition (breakfast & lunch), and social-emotional care. In Plan B, children will have to alternate from face-to-face instruction one-week to remote learning the next.

Building Hope has the unique opportunity to directly address the concerns Plan B presents, by Standing in the Gap to meet the needs of our families & by opening up our facilities during the day.

The Impact of the Standing in the Gap Day Program:

• Students are in a safe and structured environment during their remote weeks

• Students are supported by qualified staff with the skills and knowledge to help assist with online learning

• If students happen to get suspended from school they are still eligible to use Building Hope’s facilities during the week they would be in school for face to face instruction

• Students are also provided an enriched character development program focused on their social and emotional development

• Students will receive breakfast, lunch, and snack while at Building Hope

• Families have the option to allow their child(ren) to stay once school is complete to attend Building Hope’s afterschool program

• Students will have access to technology and reliable internet to complete their online learning and instruction
